About WIL

Good things happen outside the classroom.

At Victoria University we understand that good things happen when you're outside your comfort zone, away from the classroom and beyond the textbooks. That's why integrated practical experience is embedded into all of our degrees. Providing meaningful, hands on workplace experience to enrich the theoretical learning of students and to enhance the employability of graduates is a key focus of our University.

Organisations, governments and businesses are presently facing uncertainties about the future. Through our Work Integrated Learning (WIL) programme, the university is ready to help your organisation obtain access to fresh thinking, recruit competent talent, and enhance stakeholder engagement.

Work Integrated Learning is "an umbrella term for a range of applications and strategies that integrate theory with the practice of work within a purposefully designed curriculum" (Patrick, Peach, & Pocknee, 2009). Our WIL is geared towards improving graduate employability by providing practical experiences directly related to university courses.

How WIL Works

Five stakeholders. One shared goal.

Victoria University WIL involves a partnership between VU, our students (and their sponsors), a trade specific host organisation and the regulatory authority the government.

Victoria University (GRIP)

Recognises WIL as part of curricular and enables curricular reform through reports from students and educators.

VU Students

Prepare through curricular preparatory content, engage with work during placement, and reflect on learning and growth afterwards.

Host Organisation

Prepares for student arrival, provides authentic responsibilities and mentorship, then assesses learning at the end.

Educators & Researchers

Design curricular content and assessments, monitor progress in-placement, then facilitate reflection with the host.

Government

Supports VU WIL through NDP III and creates better conditions for organisations that host students.
